Race Report (or not): Lamera Cup at Nogaro - Race 2

On June 23rd and 24th, Nogaro held the 3rd race of the Lamera Cup 2018 season. This was the 2nd race where I was a part of the team roster after Magny-Cours at the beginning of April after missing Spa-Francorchamps round due to exams.

I would have love to write an article for you, as if you were with me all week-end long, but instead, I will write an article for me, as if I were here… Indeed, #53 won the race… #18 was not seen all week-end long…

My 2018 season ends here. No Nogaro, no race at Le Castellet in July, no Val de Vienne and no Dijon mustard later, no Salsa sauce in Portimao in September neither…

My teammate and crew decided they did not want to be part of Team Scorpus Racing. They broke the association with Alain Veyssière and this sidelined me from any form of racing.

I remain loyal to Alain, for best and for the worst. This is one of the sad part motorsports. It has nothing to envy to the Amazon rainforest… It is a jungle that knows no pity!

With no racing this Summer and without any asphalt to put under my tires, this is a big void that I am going to have to fill cleverly, a motivation that I will have to seek again. I will be able to concentrate on searching for partners and sponsors. The speech remains the same, only the immediate goal for 2018 is cancelled. If I listened to my heart, I would head to America right away… But what would it cost? Everything, as a famous villain would say. So be it, everything has to be my goal, and I shall not stop trying to reach it under any circumstances. What does not kill me will eventually make me come back stronger.

Despite the heartbreak and the sense of treason from teammates I wanted to reach the top of the podium with, I have still many things to work on.

This is Summer. It’s hot, very hot. The tracks are burning, the cockpits a overheated… This would have been my golden time of the year, as I always felt more at ease in such conditions. Much like Tony Stewart, I like heat and sweat better than cold and shivers. In Go-karts, I was always reaching the limits under the crushing sun of the South of France, sweating under my 3-ply suit and almost passing out after every session… Am I a masochist??? I will have several months to think about this existential question.

For the time being, I will switch the extra heating device on, put on my helmet and a big parka to reproduce those conditions at home… I will wander on the virtual laser scanned American race tracks in iRacing… As if I were there!

Despite the hard times, passion is still here. The flame is still burning.
