Offseason
In my deck for the 2020 season, I mention the « sharing » aspect of my project, the Conqwest. I had the opportunity to share these thoughts with Tim Leeming in his podcast “The Racing Spotlight”. I was invited to the first part of the podcast, at the beginning, and you can listen to it here… And share it if you feel like it!
It is not rare to read or hear that drivers get put in the spotlight when they win, sometimes at the cost of their team, mechanics, engineer and their hard work in the shadow… However, limiting racing to the driver is a big mistake.
There is a reason why we hear NASCAR drivers answer “we” and not “I” to interviews!
When the opportunity will be offered to me, this is why I wish to make my race week-ends as many opportunities to invite children, veterans or any person that would like to live a racing week-end from the inside!
For the moment, sharing my passion equals sharing the preparation that goes into a season… But how?
Pictures, videos, articles, this is what I already do… But today, I decided to share all the reflexions, thought process and questions that go through my mind when I think about 2020.
I still have the will to race, a lot of opportunities that are attractive and many people supporting me although the support lacks financially speaking… This forces me to make choices. To help me in these decisions, I adopt a logical reasoning and take a step back to judge the benefits and the flaws of each opportunity.
LMV8 Oval Series in the Netherlands, reasonable budget to race that allows to race more often…
NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, racing in an official NASCAR series, that is the logical next step after 2019…
Super Late Models in the United-States… The icing on the cake!
Racing in the LMV8, that is putting back into play my 6 consecutive wins… An interesting challenge for sure, but that is also the possibility to offer a sponsor, a company, or people the opportunity to live close to the team and walk the paddocks with me and Bachor Racing Team in a welcoming garage!
The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and the goal to win at Venray Raceway in Elite 2. The advantage of knowing the race track already… And the pressure of knowing I will have to perform at the right moment… One chance and that’ it! For the sponsor, that is the opportunity to align with prestigious brands in a NASCAR sanctioned environment.
The US and Super Late Model racing… Tempting, attracting but different! Same conditions, same cars… Same spirit? I dont think so and I want to find out. No European drivers has managed to successfully jump from Europe to America and establish as a regular oval racer. This is my goal, and I want to know if it is a legitimate objective.
The reality of racing is that I have to get sponsors and partners involved. From America to Europe… From Europe to the States… In France, in the Netherlands, in the UK… The Conqwest offers a wide range of opportunities to reach worldwide markets… With the emotions of racing as a bonus!
After giving it some thoughts, knowing that my budget is not enough to race, I have to approach it with a strategic mindset!
I met Dean Klock and exchanged with him after this year… I re-evaluated the opportunities and how each championship could benefit my future… I decided to dedicate time for finding some budget and a ride to race at Irwindale in February, or Kern County Raceway on March 21st… With the idea that succeeding in America, during reknowned events would give me the chance to attract support for other projects in Europe lateer that same year… Finding some long term goals with a common partner, that is my choice! That is taking a risk and trying to shake things up, but how else?!
At the moment, nothing is confirmed! My own budget only covers the cost of racing and does not include the crash clause, signed by American team in case of damages on the car that the driver has to pay… Dean brings me a lot of help directly from the United-States is a big plus… And I see in that sense a winning project to help me find a sponsor!
